Nation of Immigrants essays America is a nation of people from all over the world who want to live in a country where they can live in freedom and pave the way for their children. This nation was created on the foundation of freedom and liberty. I believe that the leaders who created this nation were well aware that they were building a nation where immigrants would choose to live. The leaders of America created a nation so that different nationalities of different religions can live in a country together in peace. The United States of America is a nation of immigrants because it was created by immigrants and for immigrants. It is not by consequence that the government was based on democratic values but it is by deliberate actions by our leaders to create a nation where people can have freedom and liberty no matter what race they are or what they believe in. The United States of America has a greater responsibility than any other nation in the world because it provides a home for many different nationalities and many different religions and therefore it must understand the morals and values that shape the American society. Emma Lazarus wrote a poem, The New Colossus, in which she wrote, Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free(212). I believe that America does not have a responsibility to accept huddled masses yearning to breath free, but it has a responsibility as a world power and the strongest democratic institution to improve some conditions of the world and to protect the values that have been the foundation of this nation for more than two centuries. The American people must understand that the immigrants who choose to leave their homeland and live in America do so because they want to live in a democratic nation where they will have opportunities to make a good life for themselves.
